Artists of ROC: Freshman Class 2022

There are many artists in Rochester who have used their work to make a name for themselves and support their people. This series highlights some of the many local cultivators that use their talent to amplify Black, indigenous, and queer voices. For the good of their communities, these artists share their experiences evolving as creators in Rochester, how they found their purpose, and what motivates them in their craft.

Over the summer of 2022, I worked as a Revisiting the Rochester Narrative fellow at the Democrat & Chronicle. Because Rochester’s Black community has been negatively affected by past reporting, my partners and I researched and curated stories, videos, and events that helped the D&C create community conversation and build trust with local residents.
